This is a bit late. The idea was to have it for Valentines, but well…I’ll just leave it at “better late than never.” Possessive Arthur. Magical Merlin. So I’m reading for my Celtic class, a story from Cornwall call “Tewdrig, Tyrant of Treheyl” when I come across this gem:
“So the place where this happened was afterwards called Merther, which stands between Tresillian and St Michael Penkevil. The word merther, in the Cornish tongue, means “martyr.”
MERTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it means martyr which kills me because of Arthur’s death and how Merlin has to live forever alone. Sounds like a martyr to me. God my feels.
This is as intriguing as it is heartbreaking.

The character dynamics. You’ll understand what I mean once you get past the first season. The love, hate, hurt, and other relationships are really intense in this show, and I appreciate that the writers took the time to make it that way. The actors, especially in the later seasons when the knights come into play, are amazing.
Of course, one of my favorite relationship dynamics is the one between Arthur and Merlin. They’re like bros, only homo. Even if you’re not into the whole “gay subtext” thing, you can view their relationship in the show as a really strong friendship that transcends, for the most part, the division between classes. This is especially true in the later seasons. Even outside of filming, Colin Morgan and Bradley James are very friendly and seem pretty close.
I also really loved the relationship between Morgana and Uther. I can’t elaborate too much on this because you’ve not yet gotten far enough into the series, but let’s just say that it’s intense. Katie Mcgrath (who plays Morgana) is excellent at what she does. Uther’s character is pretty much flawless in terms of how he is portrayed.
Tl;dr: I really love the actors, and I love the relationships between the characters and cast.

I’ve been fucking wondering about that. Like, he acted completely cool welcoming Mordred into Camelot even though he had to have known who he was because he was the one who helped him escape. It’s hilarious—none of the other characters mention his involvement either.
But back to the Merlin thing. Yes. OH AND LET’S NOT FORGET how in every single campfire scene with the knights that involves Merlin, Arthur is constantly searching for Merlin. And when he finds him he kind of just stares at him for the rest of that scene in its entirety. There’s so much more to add to this but I won’t, because it would be a really long post.
